The Custom Tattoo Design Process at Sacred Ornaments: From Vision to Ink

Your tattoo should be as unique as you are. At Sacred Ornaments, we don't pump out designs from a template. Every piece we create is made specifically for you. shaped by your story, your vision, your meaning. That's why people fly from Europe, Australia, and the USA to sit down with us in Bali. They're not just getting a tattoo. They're getting their tattoo.

Meet Your Artist

When you come in, you'll work with one of our three artists: Andri, Bomsky, or Ilyas. Each of them has spent 15+ years mastering blackwork, ornamental, and geometric design. They're not just skilled, they're dedicated. There's a difference. Check out who they are.

Step 1: Bring Something to Work With

Grab some visual references. A sketch you've drawn, Pinterest boards, photos of work you love. Don't stress if it's a mess of ideas. That's totally normal. Most people don't walk in with a crystal-clear vision. That's what we're here for.

Step 2: The Conversation

You sit down. Your artist listens. Not just to words—they're listening for meaning.

We talk about:

  • What this tattoo actually means to you

  • The aesthetic that makes you feel something

  • Where it lives on your body and why

  • How you want to carry this with you

This isn't a box-checking appointment. It's a real conversation. Your artist is genuinely interested in understanding your story, not just sketching a design.

Step 3: We Create Something New

Based on what you've told us, your artist sketches. But here's the thing, they're not copying your reference images. They're taking what resonates with you and creating something original, something better.

We focus on the details that matter:

  • Clean, precise lines that hold up over time

  • How the design flows with your body's natural curves

  • Negative space (this is huge in blackwork—it's what makes it pop)

  • Making sure your tattoo ages beautifully, not poorly

And here's what's important: If you look at what we've designed and something feels off, we change it. No revision limits. No "that'll be extra." We keep going until you actually feel good about it.

Most clients go through 1-3 rounds of tweaks. Some need more. We're not in a rush.

Step 4: Lock It In

Once you're genuinely happy with the design, we finalize the details:

  • Size confirmation on your actual body

  • Exact placement so it looks perfect where it's going

  • Line weight checks to make sure it lasts

  • Any last-minute tweaks you want

Then we're done exploring. The design is locked. Time to create.

Step 5: Before You Come In

About an hour before your session, everything's ready. You don't need to do anything special, we've got it all set up. The only thing worth thinking about beforehand? What to wear. Depending on where your tattoo goes, certain clothing just makes the experience smoother. We've got a full guide on that.

Once you're here, you'll be comfortable. Your artist will walk you through what's happening. You'll feel calm when the needle touches your skin.

Step 6: The Actual Tattoo

Your artist has been thinking about your design since you first walked in. They know what it means. They know every line, every angle, every intentional space. When they start, they work with focus. Every movement is deliberate. You'll feel the precision, this isn't rushed work.

How long it takes depends on what you're getting. Small pieces might take an hour. Bigger work could take multiple sessions.

Step 7: Take Care of It

You're done at the studio, but the work isn't finished. A beautiful tattoo needs beautiful healing. Especially with blackwork ornamental designs—the detail and precision you invested in deserves proper aftercare.

Why This Actually Works?

Real talk: Meaningful tattoos come from real collaboration.

Our clients don't travel to Bali because we're the cheapest. They come because when they sit down, their vision—messy or clear—actually gets heard. Gets understood. Gets elevated into something they never expected.

That's what we do. We take your idea and make it extraordinary.
